'98 Story:
This race featured the National Championship for Triathlon Clubs and our
TRH Racing (The Runner's High) team made it's first organized competitive
effort. It consisted of Kevin Kennedy, Albert Li, Brooke
Bartholomew, Michelle VanPeski, Tana Netsch (taking Laura's spot due to
illness), and myself.
The water was cold as usual but the kelp content was less. I had a
great swim and transition. The bike got a little foggy but the
course was great and managed well. I didn't feel as powerful
as usual but my time was similar to past years. The run took me a
while to warm up and as soon as I relaxed (with a prayer) my legs loosened
up and I felt better after each lap. My running partner, Dick, was
there yelling at me to pass guys. His encouragements paid off. I
moved up and held off my friend, Marco, who I knew was a threat. My
10k time was an all-time PR for me!
The whole team did great and Brooke's first International distance effort
was outstanding. We all enjoyed a great day in beautiful,
friendly Pacific Grove.
We were glad to see our good friend, Chad Hawker, recovered from his
series of setbacks, posting a 2nd overall finish and great optimism
towards Ironman in 3 weeks!
Terry Davis did an excellent job managed the race and his Christian
"Trinity Triathletes" T-shirts were a big hit!
